Textured Shower Curtain

StretchWhiteshowercurtain

I live in a historic, 1910-era building in Vancouver’s West End—a place I love for its wide corridors, vintage details and ample square footage. But the downside? I still haven’t figured out what colour to paint the bathroom. It’s a big room with beautiful penny tile flooring, but the former owner opted for a too-blue shade of cornflower to match the blue border on the tile, and the result is, well, too blue. In the meantime, while I suffer from decision paralysis, I’ve started accessorizing in neutrals to tone down my mornings—and for that, I’m loving the new line that Style at Home has released in Sears this month. The “Stretch” shower curtain comes in four colours—white, teal, shale and buiscuit—and features as subtle wave print, a good match for both vintage and modern eclectic spaces. The white will lighten up my morning blues, and best of all, it’s a steal at $39.99.

Awesome Shower Gadget

I blame my iPhone (well really, my iPod nano before that), but I’m pretty hooked on having music or podcasts playing wherever I am. Except, of course, in the shower, where my morning clock radio doesn’t quite reach, and my iPod is less than waterproof. The Serenity Light and Music system from ThermaSol would solve all my problems. (“Serenity” is particularly appealing: have I mentioned I’m a bit of a stress case around our September issue?). The 10-inch module produces high-intensity full spectrum light for chromatherapy (thus soothing my jangled nerves) while the music system is Bluetooth enabled, so my iPhone will happily stream whatever calming tunes will enhance my experience. Now if only I could export the system into my office, I’d be set.

Colourful Sink

I visited the Kohler factory in Wisconsin last fall, and I was impressed by how many of its manufacturing processes are still done by hand: ceramic sinks are sponged down as they air dry in a warm room, and many of their cast-iron sinks and baths (especially those in unique colours) are still colour-coated by hand.

It’s part of what makes it possible for them to launch this great new colour set from quirky (and colour-loving) designer Jonathan Adler. The shades he’s developed aren’t for the faint of heart, but in an all-white bathroom, a sink in one of four Adler colours (cool Greenwich green, poppy Piccadilly Yellow, soothing Palermo Blue and rich Annapolis Navy) adds just the right amount of wow.
